It’s healthy to have some body fat, but not all fat is created equal. For instance we have Brown Fat, White Fat, Beige aka Brite Fat, Subcutaneous Fat, Visceral Fat, and Essential Fat

Today I am going to focus on Visceral Fat.

Why?

Because Visceral fat is the most dangerous and threatening fat to the human body. Visceral fat is a type of body fat that’s stored within the abdominal cavity. It’s located near several vital organs, including the:

• liver

• stomach

• intestines

It can also build up in the arteries.

Visceral fat is sometimes referred to as “active fat” because it can actively increase the risk of serious health problems such as:

• heart disease

• stroke

• coronary artery disease

• atherosclerosis

• pregnancy complications

• type 2 diabetes

• hormone disturbances

• some cancers

Unlike, other fats, Visceral fat is actually inside the abdominal cavity; therefore, it is not easily seen. It is a very dangerous fat for overall health, quality of days, quality of life, and even life span.

So, how you do know how much visceral fat you have and what is considered within healthy range.

The only way to definitively diagnose visceral fat is with a CT or MRI. However, these are expensive and time-consuming procedures. The least expensive way to have a CT- MRI scan is to contact locations that offer these services and ask them if they give discounts to those who can take cancellation spots or on days where they are slow. This is a little trick that those without insurance use to reduce medical cost.

Another way to determine if you may be at risk for related health problems is to measure your waist. According to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, if you’re a woman and your waist measures 35 inches or larger, you’re at risk for health problems from visceral fat. Men are at risk for health problems when their waist measures 40 inches or larger.

If you are overweight/ fat, skinny fat, or obese chances are your visceral fat levels are higher than healthy. This is a serious health issue that needs to be corrected for overall quality of day and life.

Health problems from increased visceral fat can start immediately.
