Something new…

Today is Day One of Week One where Alex Pilson and I have decided to add few plant based days each week.

Based on anecdotal research- we should feel some differences in our bodies on plant based days. I will be reporting back.

Literally, every lifestyle option can be healthly or unhealthy.

  • There are unhealthy meat eaters and healthy meat eaters
  • There are unhealthy vegans and healthy vegans
  • There are unhealthy plant based and healthy plant based.
  • There are unhealthy gluten free and healthy gluten free.

There are many processed vegan, plant based, and gluten free foods that are anything other than healthy.

Just as every “fit looking” body does not equal great health and fitness.

Where I see a lot of vegans, plant based, and gluten free whole food eaters go wrong is they do not create a menu that ensures all the nutrients the human body; more importantly, their individual body needs for their health and fitness to improve. They eat too little and feel hungry and weak.

Here is the recipe we used for todays meal. Because we are doing plant based today we substituted whole wheat pasta for chickpea pasta. Reality is most whole wheat anything in this country is so processed the benefits have been stripped.

I admit I was scared to try it. I do not like cauliflower- will eat broccoli all day and really do not like cauliflower.

I could not taste cauliflower at all nor could Pilson.

Really surprised by how good our first meal was and is. Still eating as I write this:) I would definitely spice it up a little more next time and have already added spice to our additional sauce that will be frozen for a quick dish another day.

This first meal was very satisfying with over 24 grams of protein, healthy fat, veggies, loaded with natural dietary fiber- 0 processed sugar- and although- chickpea pasta is high in carbs they are natural so the glycemic index does not spike creating energy without a high followed by a crash.

Ideally, I wanted spinach noodles and Whole Foods did not have any. Pleasantly surprised by consistency and flavor of the chickpea pasta- very pasta like.

We are making this adjustment for 3 reasons:

1) We want to see if it actually does improve performance
2) If, we can take our health and fitness to a higher level we are 100% game because we know how much our current level of health and fitness improved our performance, quality of day, and quality of life- higher level of enjoyment for everything we do in life.
3) To remove unwanted unhealthy ingredients and/ or chemicals from our food chain. Even buying organic pasture raised meats we are getting some things we ideally would not want- that we would never ingest if they were handed to us. There is a lot that is not being controlled in our food chain and that has a direct impact on the health of the human body.

If we can feel any better- why not!

One life!

We want to leave this earth on our own terms… not because we ate ourselves into a horrific death and lessened our quality of living days, months, and years by making poor nutrition and exercise choices creating chronic disease, etc.

None of us understand what feeling good feels like until we actually feel good. We do not understand what feeling great feels like until we actually feel great.

And with 10 year olds showing up with clogged arteries, type II diabetes, etc and how most people eat in this country- people are not truly feeling good.

Just imagine what all you could do if you did!

Recipe for today… only swap was pasta for chickpea pasta
