Have you ever been in a doctors office and said to your doctor, please speak English to me versus Latin or Greek (the language for most medical terms) or if you are like me I just ask them to please put it in non-doctor terminology please and thank you…
only to find out that I have a common cold and not dying from this thing called viral rhinitis.
Well, fitness trainers (some more than others) love to speak big and small words that make us look important because we spent a lot of time learning them. It is great to have the knowledge of what each muscle is actually called and I don’t think our clients really care to learn them or they would have gone to school to do so.
If I say to my client..
relax your supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis, then retract your scapula
or
the bench should be resting just below your scapula
or
squeeze your scapula
… most are going to look at me with a lost WTF are you talking about look.
I love empowering my clients as much as they wish to be empowered and maybe 1 out of 100 cares to know what a muscle is actually called or how many muscles make up the group or how many heads a muscle has.
It does not matter that they think the quad is one big muscle when there are four muscles.
They care about the results!
When I teach them little tricks and tips I developed from experimenting that created shape and definition I never experienced, they learn there are 4 and I show them on their leg where the four come into play. If they want their names, I will give them to them.
I am a professional and I am also a student passionate for continued learning.
I bring this up because there is a trend right now that is beyond threatening to ones health, fitness, and body. You see it focuses solely on Macros as overall nutrition is not the hot current trend, Macros is.
MACROS
MICROS
Short for Macronutrients and Micronutrients, fancy terminology for what makes up nutrition.
Macronutrients are nutrients your body needs in large amounts, mainly protein, carbohydrates, and fats.
Micronutrients are vitamins and minerals.
I have been very clear that the only #macros I count is protein grams as I have a range important to my #health
I do count my carbohydrates or fats because I know that between my organic fruits of 6 plus servings a day, the organic veggies of 6 plus servings a day, and the healthy fats I incorporate I get sufficient carbohydrates and fats to fuel my body, and also support my health goals plus workouts
I practice a high level of preventative health care so between proper #nutrition and #supplements I excel at #micronutrients
Here is the BIG problem I am seeing with Instagram “Health” and I use that term lightly “Influencers” is the focus is on MACROS with zero focus on MICROS!!
Making MACRO friendly meals using MICRO horrific ingredients and substituting real #healthy fats with fake processed inflammatory fats because they reduce calories and reduce fat sending the wrong message. And using reduced carbohydrate substitutions which means more processing and shit health degrading ingredients to be “MACRO friendly”.
We have to stop believing there is a magic pill or shot for weight management and for great health, because America keeps get fatter and/or unhealthier buying into the message that there is one and that quality of ingredients does not matter.
You cannot put “health coach” in your title is you are recommending “I cannot believe its not butter light” loaded with inflammatory ingredients and leading people with recipes that do not promote #health.
Truth
Facts
Anyone can maintain weight eating fast food by maintaining a calorie range, and that does not protect their GUT, their heart, and their body from the problems and disease that awaits as a result of the chemicals and bad fats they are partaking in.
