Ever hear the phrase “Eat the frog”?
The idea is that you identify one challenging task (the frog) and complete the task first thing in the morning (eating it). To put it simply, eating the frog is the process of identifying your most difficult task of the day (a task not optional to the success of your goal) and completing it before you do any other work aka as knocking out what you hate most first so you do not delete it altogether.
As a Life Coach and Blogger- all things health and fitness- we may have an “eat that frog” in every segment of what encompasses a healthy lifestyle:
⁃ Physical Health (Nutrition, Supplementation, and Exercise)
⁃ Emotional Health
⁃ Mental Health
⁃ Spiritual Health
⁃ Relational (Relationship) Health
⁃ Sexual Health
⁃ Professional Health
⁃ Financial Health
Each segment represents a perfectly inflated tire, if we are not feeding each segment we get a flat tire, we only have so much run flat before our lack of counterbalance catches up to us and we are stalled from moving forward in a positive manner.
Physical health is a priority to all other segments that encompasses a healthy lifestyle.
I often recommend to clients that are not yet in habit of prioritizing physical health that they “eat that frog” first thing to start their day off with an accomplishment that ultimately gives them energy to accomplish other productive activities in the other areas.
Life is not about perfection, it is about progress.
10 years ago I was diagnosed with a rare incurable neurological disease took my morning workout schedule away. So this girl who was dedicated to and in habit of waking at 5am each day and being at the gym at 5:30 to start her day off right ensuring that nothing came up in the day that would interfere with me prioritizing my health and fitness adjusted to a new normal.
That new normal was take the time to workout when I felt the strongest each day.
So much of making it to the gym and through a strength training session is mindset. The dilemma we might run into is our mindset as the day progresses begins to fade as our energy begins to exhaust our physical and mental reserves on other things like work. Our willpower to say no to an after dinner drink with friends because we have a date with ourselves at the gym weakens and we often erase our self care and self love for the other offer.
I am a huge believer in “eating the frog”
Morning can be a different time for different people so that first thing can mean a different time for different people. Reality is there are people who work nights or work anything other than a 9 to 5 job. So when is their “eat the frog”
Until proper nutrition, proper strength training, and a mindset of habit forms around it, we all have to “eat the frog” to form the habit.
So when is the ideal time for you to hit the gym and accomplish a strength training session? A time that you can consistently commit to doing so without distraction from work and invites to derail you.
If you are an 8 till 5 or 6 you may want to create a rise earlier and eat the health frog before work. It takes about 2 weeks to get use to the earlier mornings and then you appreciate the energy it brings to your day and the accomplishment you feel leaving the gym.
If you have a personality that once you commit, you are not distracted, you may prioritize your strength training session on your way home to energize and decompress your work day.
If you work into early morning hours or nights, you may work out on your way home before you sleep to wind down and calm your body for proper sleep.
When it comes to physical health, a great starter to building a habit is investing in self with (1) a great gym that has hours that works with your schedule like a 24 hour gym that is well equipped like Pack Animal Fitness and (2) a highly qualified trainer to teach you what to do, how to do it, and jump start your results.
Here is truth!
Here is facts!
You are your biggest asset; and yet, you all too often fail to invest properly in yourself with good nutrition, proper supplementation, and strength training. There is no better time than the present to switch directions for your health!
I end on this note, every great leader has mentors and coaches. Every great mentor has mentors and coaches. Every great coach has mentors and coaches. Greatness requires investment in self!
Choose Greatness!
