I feel pretty…

So Alex and I watched the movie I Feel Pretty last night. Such a cute feel good movie with overall a great message overall.

One of the most important message shown is that Confidence exudes beauty!

When Amy Shumer’s character had low self esteem the world responded to her negative energy with negative and when her self esteem went through the roof without any physical change and she exudes confidence the world took notice and doors opened.

There is nothing more sexy, more beautiful, more contagious than a confident woman!

As I watched this movie it mirrored perceptions and judgement I see play out in real life on the regular.

Thoughts, Beliefs and Behavior that must end… because it is judgmental discriminatory behavior that pins women against each other.

I recently wrote a blog on Body Positivity. I wrote the blog after being bombarded on social media with new feeds of woman displaying their out of shape unhealthy bodies in the name of body positivity. Again, I am all about each of us loving ourselves as God made us. I will never stand behind us abusing our bodies and harming our health because I believe God made us to be our very best!

Watching this movie reminded me just how much hypocrisy there is… and that we as woman are mostly at fault for the hypocrisy.

Don’t think that’s true? Think again!

Here are all the ways that we as woman are hypocrites when it comes to body positivity.

Fat Shaming? How about Fit Shaming? Why is it that we, as woman, will praise an overweight woman who post a nude (not showing actual private parts) or bathing suit pic and show disgust for a fit woman doing the same for “showing off or seeking attention” and she must be a “conceded bitch”.

Only fat woman can be body positive and confident in their own skin or bikini?

Could it be the fat picture makes us feel better about ourselves so we praise and the fit girl or exercise video makes us feel bad so we shame?

What do we need to work on within ourselves to truly support other woman?

Food Shaming? Why is that we create the image that fat people don’t have table manners and fit or thin girls don’t eat or eat any carbs?

The last time I checked ones weight has absolutely nothing to do with their level of class and table manners. While we assume that every thin and/ or fit girl is anorexic?

Perhaps we think associating obesity with lack of class will cause motivation to not become obese or to lose weight. While we see obtaining a fit and lean frame as unobtainable for ourselves so we make ourselves feel better by making up a story that these woman don’t eat.

My blog series on Why Lift Weights Reason 1, Reason 2, and Reason 3 reveals just how every person can get fit and lean AND eat a lot!

Actually eat more!! More of the most valuable lessons I have learned in my health and fitness journey is just how much I had to eat to put muscle on and the eating privileges that come in the sweet spot of muscle percentage to fat percentage in ones body.

Perhaps we each need to stop and pause…

before we cast negative judgement.

before we assume.

before we hate.

before we gossip.

… Stop and pause to take a look in the mirror at ourselves to identify what inside of us, what insecurities we have about ourselves, and perhaps what we fear that is causing such a strong reaction within us.

My guess is we each have some personal work to do before we can truly be confident and secure in ourselves and when we do it is then and only then we can truly live in a space to support all woman!
