Yes, I eat Pizza

Alex and I were out to dinner at Mexican with new friends this past weekend and as we were waiting to be seated the four of us engaged in conversation about health and fitness. One of the friends, a dedicated mountain runner who engages in events that are 50 miles plus and spends some time lifting weights. She spends some time lifting weights and does cardio.

Alex and I shared that our longest walks include a stop at our favorite pizza. In surprise, she said “you eat pizza- I didn’t think you ate things like that.”

I think one of the biggest misperceptions is that fit people- especially fit woman- don’t eat and/ or are so strict with food their meals are boring.

There are so many judgements, misperceptions, and assumptions regarding the aesthetics appearance of others such as…

Skinny equals fit

Skinny people (especially girls) don’t eat

All Fat people are fat because they overeat

Fat people are lazy

Fat people are sedentary

Fit girls don’t eat

Fit people spend all their time in the gym

All fit people are body obsessive

They must have had surgery, etc

I wish I could say that the misperceptions and assumptions are equal among the sexes.

Let’s be honest!

We do not hear too many men bashing other men for how great they look. Studies show most men tend to think they look better than they do and most woman tend to think they look worse than they do.

If you read my recent blog https://onebadassbitchfitness.wordpress.com/2021/03/02/why/ I discuss reasons I believe are behind why we judge and assume.

When it comes to judgement/assumption/ misperception regarding the diet of others I again have studied behavior, observed behavior, and have drawn conclusion based on conversations I have been privy to… and even going deep in thought to times I have made assumptions.

Could it be that these assumptions/ lies we tell ourselves give us reason/ excuse for not meeting our own standard of health and fitness? For not being in the shape we desire? For not taking the time needed for self care and love?

Is it perhaps easier to believe that it is nearly impossible to obtain or requires extreme behavior to obtain than it is to admit we are just too lazy or even too stubborn to adjust habit.

Is it perhaps easier to believe we are not capable of being that fit and that our current state of health and fitness has nothing to do with our health and fitness habits or lack thereof, our choices, and/ or is not even in our control. We look to pass the responsibility to others and everything else such as poor genetics, age, hormones, pregnancy, etc.

I have even had friends through the years that doctor hopped because their weight/ fat issue had to be something more than their diet and exercise habits. They just knew their thyroid had to not be functioning properly regardless of what test showed and refused to believe it was their habits and choices.

Perhaps the fat we are holding on to, the unhealthy habits we are holding on to, and even the judgement/ assumption/ misperception we make of others we are holding on to which ultimately stress the body, stress the mind, and hinders us in life in so many ways… actually masks a deeper pain, a deeper insecurity, a deeper hurt, a deeper vulnerability, a deeper?

Yes, I eat pizza and lots of chocolate too. I actually consume a lot of calories each day because getting fit and maintaining a fit body does not come from starvation and deprivation. Healthy unprocessed foods make up about 85% of my diet. Mexican, Pizza, Burger and Fries, and Chocolate make up the other 15%.

This blog is not really about the fact that I eat pizza. In fact, it has nothing to do with my diet at all.

It has everything to do with mindset and mental health!

It is about looking in the mirror and facing the judgements/ assumptions/ misperceptions we make to somehow feel better about ourselves, stopping the lies we tell ourselves too justify the judgements/ assumptions/ misperceptions we make that are holding us back, and cleaning the mirror to allow space for us to each be the very best version of ourselves!

Want to create a healthy and fit body that is easy to maintain?

It all starts with mindset!
