Ignorant Bliss

I shared earlier this week about the documentary In Search of Balance.

I have written often about the politics behind food, our epidemic of poor health and fitness, and the monetary gains resulting from Americans staying in poor health and fitness.

We, as humans, all to often love living in ignorant bliss.

The only problem with living in ignorant bliss when it comes to our health and fitness is that the bliss is only temporary. How well we care for our bodies and how well we feed our bodies will ultimately determine how long we can live in ignorance is bliss.

We have eaten our way to most chronic health conditions… we have to eat our way out of them and into great health and fitness.

“We medicalize health”! This statement by one of the doctors in this documentary is so powerful!

What does “we medicalize health” mean? It means that instead of taking responsibility, ownership, and care of our own well being, we abuse our bodies with poor health and fitness habits, and then take medicines to manage the damage we have caused.

Managing an ailment does not equal good health. It does not equal healing.

For instance, Stop taking blood pressure medicine, your blood pressure goes up.

Medicalize health does not come close to matching what actually being in good health and fitness provides and the energy and quality of life it brings. Additionally, All medicines have their own side effects. In fact, 106,000 Americans die each year from side effects of prescription drugs. Prescription drugs prescribed to help manage chronic disease.

Proper nutrition actually heals- it does not just manage.

Truth is people do not know how bad they feel until they experience feeling good. Like, have you ever been constipated? We do not appreciate pooping until we are constipated. Just like we don’t really appreciate a clear breathing nose until you have a cold.

We don’t know how it feels to be truly heathy and fit until we are.

Are you ready?
