You never know…

You never know…

@alexpilson and I were in @wholefoods yesterday picking up some of our smoothie ingredients.

And, we were super lucky to get my favorite cashier. I have been in her line many times and each time she has greeted me with a huge smile, positive energy, and an authentic helpful attitude. Yesterday was no different.

I make it a point to compliment as many people a day as possible.

Why?

Two reasons:

1. Because more personalities than not in this world need compliments, need recognition, and crave acceptance of others.

2. Because we never know what someone is experiencing in their life and just how badly they need to feel loved and appreciated.

We cannot judge a book by its cover. We like to judge and assume based on someone’s smile or what they post that they are just fine.

Or is it that making such judgement or assumption removes any responsibility or need to reach out and help?

I have always thanked her for her help as I checked out.

Yesterday, was different, I told her how I was just bragging about her to Alex after my last visit. That I wanted her to know how much I appreciate her positive energy, positive attitude, and her willingness to go over and beyond for each person in her line. That her energy is contagious and I leave her lane feeling uplifted.

Tears came to her eyes! She was so appreciative of the words and no doubt her spirit felt the sincerity of my words.

She then shared yesterday was her last day as she is moving forward with her passion in design and will be working designing shoes for a major shoe company, Vans. I told her they are so lucky to have her and her energy will do great things for them and I have no doubt I will recognize the shoes she took part in designing because her energy is so real.

I am sharing this story because I fully understand her tears had nothing to do with yesterday being her last day there. Her tears were a result of her needing to hear the words that my heart expressed to her.

There could be so many reasons why she needed to hear them and that is none of my business. My heart felt compelled and I listened… I acted and in some way filled a void she needed filled.

I am sharing this story in hopes that you will walk around with a more open heart, open mind, and a greater understanding that your actions, your words, and your behavior has the ability to lift someone up or tear than down.

We don’t know what people are experiencing in their real world. Most people are living the dream on social media or people assume because they choose not to ask questions… too many people have gotten into selfish mode. They pretend they care when they really careless!

What if we were a little more appreciative and showed love to others versus being so caught up in our own world we devalue and diminish their worth and take for granted their service without even realizing we are just by being passive.

You never know who needs what, so start taking notice and showing appreciation… you will be surprised how many lives you can impact for the better if you slow down and take time to pay attention. And maybe even ask a question or two!
